The Vital Link program is a weeklong, unpaid, half-day internship program which allows eighth-grade students to gain real world work experience.
The Chamber partners with Birdville ISD to recruit member businesses to host incoming eighth grade students. The program takes place the week following the last week of school in May or June. Students are matched with Chamber member businesses in the area and spend three hours per day for one week working in the business alongside a mentor.
Students and Chamber member hosts both report that Vital Link is very rewarding. Each participating student gets to work with professionals on the job, experience hands-on activities in the workplace, and make a connection between what is learned in school and what is required in the workplace. The mentors experience the joy of sharing their experience with a young person, all to the long-term benefit of our community.
