NORTH TARRANT EXPRESS PROJECT
|
The North Tarrant Express project is a total highway reconstruction of three critical highway segments including the Interstate 820 and State Highway 121/State Highway 183 corridor between I-35W and Industrial Boulevard in Northeast Tarrant County, Texas. |
The most recent North Tarrant Express/I-35W project was the reconstructiion of a 10.1-mile stretch of I-35W from downtown Fort Worth to US 287 in North Fort Worth. This project is already relieving congestion, improving safety and providing for anticipated traffic growth in this fast-developing region. Construction began in 2013 on the northern segment (north of I-820) and was completed in late 2017. Construction on the southern segment (south of I-820) began in 2014 and is has just recently been completed (Summer 2018).
Anticipated investment in both North Tarrant Express segments is $1.4 billion for the Downtown to I-820 interchange and $200 million for the northern segment from I-820 north to US 287. This current investment came on the heels of the $2.5 billion, 13. 3-mile North Tarrant Express (NTE) reconstruction project that traverses six different municipalities in Tarrant County and extends from I-35 in Fort Worth to DFW Airport.
In addition to the billions of dollars in infrastructure investment, the project has created 1,000s of jobs in the area and has already had a dramatic, positive impact on mobility in Northeast Tarrant County.
Drivers, residents, and businesses along the 13.3-mile North Tarrant Express (NTE) I-820 reconstruction project have been enjoying the original $2.5-billion highway project that opened six months ahead of schedule in 2015. The I-820 NTE project was fairly unique in that it traverses six different municipalities in Tarrant County.
