TEXRAIL
|
TEXRail is a new 27-mile commuter rail line that will extend from downtown Fort Worth, across northeast Tarrant County, through North Richland Hills and Grapevine, and into DFW International Airport’s Terminal B. This line, which will begin service in late 2018, is projected to serve more than 8,000 daily riders at nine stations by the end of the first year of operation. By 2035, nearly 13,000 riders are projected to ride the system. |
The planned TEXRail commuter route will incorporate nine commuter stations with ticket vending, covered seating, lighting, and security cameras. The new Northeast Tarrant stations include Mercantile Center with 318 parking spots, N. Richland Hills/Iron Horse with 376 parking spots, and N. Richland Hills/Smithfield with 559 parking spots.
The commuter trains are Diesel Multiple Units (DMUs) and are quieter than traditional locomotives, more fuel efficient, and each operator sits at the end of a passenger car. Commuters will find a roomy design for greater passenger comfort, comfortable ride, low noise level, WiFi, USB, double leaf swing-plug doors, and extendable platforms that facilitate rapid and comfortable passenger boarding even for people with disabilities and parents pushing strollers.
Total investment in the TEXRail Project is $1.034 Billion with approximately half of that investment coming from the federal government. Additional investment has come from a combination of several funding sources including city sales tax and a Tarrant County bond issue.
