WATAUGA
The City of Watauga, named for a Cherokee term meaning “the village of many springs,” was incorporated as a municipality in 1958.
Today, this home-rule city of more than 24,000 residents is a dynamic business and residential community working to partner economic growth with an outstanding civic atmosphere.
Watauga continues to build its legacy of abundance and prosperity through aggressive economic growth, low crime rates, highly rated school districts (Birdville ISD and Keller ISD), affordable housing and a small town civic atmosphere. These factors, coupled with ready access to shopping, entertainment, recreation, airports and key business districts in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex, make Watauga an attractive alternative for families and businesses alike.
In 2016 and again in 2017, Watauga was named the HOTTEST zip code for residential sales in the country by Realtor.com.
Watauga's pro-business atmosphere and its membership in numerous regional and state economic development organizations, provide the assistance needed to bring commerce to the area. The City has a bustling business environment with more than 400 small, medium and large companies who provide a diverse group of goods and services. These businesses support a quality of life that is unsurpassed by most communities of the same size.
With easy access to Interstate 35, Loop 820 and State Highway 121 – and located less than 15 miles from both Alliance Airport and DFW International Airport, Watauga can boast of its outstanding accessibility and transportation systems, including the Trinity Railway Express (TRE). The City has also identified the value of facilitating commuter rail service in the future along the Southern Pacific Line paralleling US 377/Denton Hwy.
Watauga has sought to capitalize on the retail momentum it has experienced along US 377 in an attempt to spur similar investment along Watauga Road. In a proactive approach, the Watauga City Council has adopted WCIP – Watauga Commercial Improvement Program, an incentive program to assist commercial property owners with funding for improvements to their properties.
The City’s modern library system enhances educational opportunities for residents and visitors of all ages. Watauga residents benefit from a variety of recreational facilities, including a modern Community Center, well-maintained park system and an active Senior Adult Center. Capp Smith Park, located in the heart of the City, occupies 36.7 acres and offers a lighted walking trail, outdoor amphitheater and stocked lake; as well as being home to many events and festivals.
Watauga is proud of their city and accomplishments! Visit Watauga and discover for yourself what makes Watauga a “Great Place to Live & Do Business.”
